doesn't really affect anything important, as it would work the same with a ignore/friends list person as them making a new character.
Wouldn't hurt to charge money, goldsinks=cool

Allowing players to change character names would be way too much i think. It's not that I don't like the idea. It's just that it'd defeat the whole purpose of a fantasy game..
I would sign IF it's just a one-time permanent change thing. Or I won't sign..just my opinion here

I would LOVE this feature. I would like to rename most of my charecters with the same surname so people in my guild could tell it was me. And some of my charecters have stupid names. :S

With a limit of one a month and maybe a considerable charge (of plat, not $), this would be a decent idea and a nice goldsink. There are enough players in the game to where you'll rarely be bothered by the same idiot twice, and presumably their new character name will still be on /ignore if you put them on it under their old one.
/signed, although I'm perfectly happy with my character names.

I'm gonna /notsign this one... for the reasons that others have stated - it could possibly be abused. If there was a limit or specified time-frame that it would be allowed... maybe
[but I'm gonna do a size 2 font /sign, because I spelled "twilight".. "twighlight" in my name, and want to fix it haha]

The GW Community has helped shape the game to what it is today by suggesting features. Let's keep the flow of good idea's flowing and let the one's without vision play the Atari 2600 because they don't handle change to well.
People have cited scammer abuse as one of the possible downfalls of this feature. I agree that it could be abused in this way. But as another poster pointed out, whats to stop him from scamming you, logging out, deleting the scam charecter, creating a new one, and then go about his business. Adding the scammed to his ignore list will never show that the scammer is online. If you don't have enough intelligence to not be scammed, then I am sorry to say it's your own fault. Learn from your mistake, report the scammer and move on.
Another Reason cited is that the name is a key field in the database that can't be changed otherwise the account get's screwed up. I will agree and disagree with the statement. Name change tools are in place for names that violate the EULA. One person suggested to me that customized armor and weapons will no longer work for charecter that had thier names changed. I don't know if it's true or not as I have never been told I have to change any of my charecters names so I can't be sure of this or not. But if written to cover armor and weapon customization's then the arguement against name changes is moot on this one aspect.
I have a feeling that GW accounts are based on a unique identifier such as an autonumbering system and the Key used to unlock guildwars. I work with database's all day long and I can tell you from first hand experience that ANY database field can be changed without harming the database with properly written tools. I don't see Name Change as such a huge issue since part of the code is already in place for EULA violators. Just expand it to cover customized armor and weapon's. Limit the Number of times a person can change the charecters name.
EDIT: I would like to apologize for my horrible grammatics. I will try to write better in future posts.
Just Food For Thought

/signed for name changing
For those saying this is more work for the devs, keep in mind that the current method they use to change names for characters that have inappropriate names is completely automated. That means the devs don't have to do anything.

I reckon it's a good idea.
but I agree with Shimus Darkraven, it should not be free, or it would be abused.
If it wasn't free, then /signed.

It would be a great idea as long as there were some conditions in effect to stop possible abuse, One change per month or even one change quarterly would be great and/or a small fee.
I already /Signed but what we need is some official word on the subject.

I'd not mind the ability to adjust other aspects of appearance but the name change is a necessary thing to have - especially after watching so many misspelled names all over GW and yes I am sure it was not always intentional.
The number of "solider"s out there alone is mind boggling - let the poor people who mistyped get their own name right, please and thank you
